Each one of our on site staff members and our activities instructors is committed to providing a high quality educational and recreational experience for campers that focus on the Camp d'Ete core values of safety, camaraderie, respect and responsibility.
All our staff is qualified and experienced in school and camp environments. Each adult at the camp is background checked, and hold a CPR and First Aid Certification.
Mirza Kopelman, Le Camp D'Eté Director
Mirza Kopelman is in his tenth year as Extended Day Director at Ecole Bilingue. He brings 15 years experience in education, starting as a music teacher in New York City for three years. In 2004 he moved to Los Angeles where he started his own after school music teaching company. After several years he and his family relocated to Berkeley. His three children have all attended Ecole Bilingue and have become part of the EB family.
He is extremely passionate about the concept of learning outside the classroom, and uses this as his guiding principle in leading Extended Day. He loves music, nature, and sports.
Mirza Kopelman holds a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from Purchase College - State University of New York.
Lyesse Tsamen, Le Camp D'Eté Consultant
Lyesse Tsamen is a consultant working with Mirza Kopelman to develop and operate le Camp d'Ete. Lyesse is the Founder and CEO of Bridges Education Consulting, an education services consulting
company. He has over 20 years of experience in education services and after-school programs and camps in France and United States. He is the creator of "Ecole du Soleil", an internationally
recognized French immersion summer camp in Los Angeles. Prior to forming Bridges Education Consulting, Lyesse was the Director of Activities and Athletics at the International School of Los
Angeles School for 15 years. Lyesse continues to oversee the Activities and Athletics for the International School of Los Angeles School on a consultant basis. Lyesse holds a BA in History
and two Master degrees in Political Sciences and Information/Communication from Universite de Versailles-SQY and Lyon III, France. Lyesse was born in North Africa and grew up in France. He
is fluent in French, English, and Arabic. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and four year old son and two year old daughter.
Laura Scarfo, French instructor & Junior Camp counselor
Laura Scarfo was born and raised in France. Her passion for different cultures, languages and travels led her to undertake Foreign Languages applied to Business, Marketing and Translation studies. She holds a BA and two Master's degrees in Translation and Interpretation delivered by the Universite of Lorraine, France. She worked in London, Montreal and Barcelona before going back to France where she teaches Marketing English for the European Business School of Metz. She is fluent in French, English and Italian and has some knowledge of Spanish and German. She is passionate about movies, cooking and is always up for a good laugh. Taking care of the people around her has always been a huge part of who she is. She strongly believes that sharing is caring.
Justine Schmitt, French instructor & Junior Camp counselor
Justine was born and raised in France but has always lived in a multi-cultural family, with a father German by descent and an Italian mother. Justine has a bachelor in Foreign Languages (English and Italian) and completed a Master's Degree in Education and Pedagogy of Foreign Languages last year in Lyon, France. After teaching French in Miami, Florida and Seville, Spain she currently works in Luxembourg where she teaches French as a foreign language. She believes that traveling leads to tolerance, compassion and understanding. She is always all smiles and present for the others. She likes to be creative and innovative in both her personal life and her job.
Ines Heffer, French instructor & Junior Camp counselor
Ines was born and raised in France. She always had a passion for different cultures as she works for the International Student Office at the Grenoble School of Management. As a first year student there, she currently follows the English track which allows her to share different experiences with international students. She holds the BAFA (French state certification for camp counselors) which led her to work in summer camps all over France, Spain and UK. Ines is fluent in French, English, Spanish and Arabic. She likes to be there for everyone around her and will always try her best to make them feel at ease. She is super active, caring and always down for new fulfilling experiences.
Ines Ouabdelkader, French instructor & Junior Camp counselor
After an amazing first experience last Summer at le Camp d'Ete, Ines is returning this year. Ines was born and raised near Paris. She is a 22 and attending to a business school in Grenoble, France. Ines is holding a BAFA, the French certification for camps and after school activities. She spent the last 5 years working in summer camps and linguistic travels all over France and in the US.
Alix Koliha, French instructor & Mini Camp counselor
Alix holds a French degree in education and has 17 years experience working with preschool, elementary and middle school aged children. Working with children has always been her true passion and she is an extremely friendly, energetic and creative individual. She is also and EB parent. Her child Koliha is in Moyenne Section.
Heloise Tron, French instructor & Mini Camp counselor
Heloise is a French native, and is currently working in our preschool as a long term substitute, and has become a valuable member of our staff. Previously, she worked 7 years as a speech therapist in France with children and adults. She loves working with young children and she is very interested in the challenges of bilingualism. She loves singing and is part of UCAC (University of California Alumni Choir) here in Berkeley.
Thierry Durandard, French instructor & Mini Camp counselor
Thierry Durandard has been at EB for over 25 years in multiple capacities. He started teaching in Kindergarten and over multiple years grew into the position of Lower School Head. He recently retired from his administrative position and is happy to return to our summer camp classrooms. In his spare time, he enjoys gardening and nature.
Chauncey Burnett, Mini Camp counselor
Chauncey Burnett has worked at EB for over 13 years in our Extended Care department. She loves doing story time, organizing crafts & activities, and dancing with the After Care children. She
is a Bay Area native, raising her 2 boys, ages 4 and 7 in San Francisco.
