Meet our Team

Each one of our on site staff members and our activities instructors is committed to providing a high quality educational and recreational experience for campers that focus on the Camp d'Été core values of safety, camaraderie, respect and responsibility. 


All our staff is qualified and experienced in school and camp environments. Each adult at the camp is background checked, and hold a CPR and First Aid Certification.

Mirza Kopelman, Le Camp D'Eté Director


Mirza Kopelman is in his tenth year as Extended Day Director at Ecole Bilingue. He brings 15 years experience in education, starting as a music teacher in New York City for three years. In 2004 he moved to Los Angeles where he started his own after school music teaching company. After several years he and his family relocated to Berkeley. His three children have all attended Ecole Bilingue and have become part of the EB family.


He is extremely passionate about the concept of learning outside the classroom, and uses this as his guiding principle in leading Extended Day. He loves music, nature, and sports.

Mirza Kopelman holds a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from Purchase College - State University of New York.

Lyesse Tsamen, Le Camp D'Eté Consultant


Lyesse Tsamen is a consultant working with Mirza Kopelman to develop and operate le Camp d'Ete. Lyesse is the Founder and CEO of Bridges Education Consulting, an education services consulting company. He has over 20 years of experience in education services and after-school programs and camps in France and United States.


He is the creator of "Ecole du Soleil", an internationally recognized French immersion summer camp in Los Angeles. Prior to forming Bridges Education Consulting, Lyesse was the Director of Activities and Athletics at the International School of Los Angeles School for 15 years. Lyesse continues to oversee the Activities and Athletics for the International School of Los Angeles School on a consultant basis. Lyesse holds a BA in History and two Master degrees in Political Sciences and Information/Communication from Universite de Versailles-SQY and Lyon III, France. 


Lyesse was born in North Africa and grew up in France. He is fluent in French, English, and Arabic. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and four year old son and two year old daughter.

Coline Dépagne


Coline is a French Native, born in Paris, she was raised in the French Alps near Grenoble. She moved to the Bay Area when she was 10 years old, following her father's work. She is fluent in French and English and is studying Italian in her spare time. She is currently attending Diablo Valley College, studying Computer Science. She used to be a teacher's assistant for a French class. She was a commissioner for her city's youth commission for over four years, planning and organizing activities directed towards children.

Mwï Epalle


Mwï Epalle was born in Los Angeles California. She was born to a Cameroonian father and a German-American mother. She speaks English and French fluently and is conversational in Spanish. She attended The International School of Los Angeles from Kindergarten to twelfth grade. She completed her French Baccalaureate in the Economics track and graduated in 2020 with “mentions bien”. She now attends Kenyon College where she is double majoring in economics and biological anthropology with a minor in dance. In the summer of 2020, she worked as a summer teacher for pre-k children at the Early Learning Center for the International School of Los Angeles. She was a member of the Los Angeles Children's Choir for eleven years and loves music (singing especially) and dance and other arts.

Rachael Longuépée


Rachael was born and raised in Quebec City, Canada. She is 26 years old and is in her senior year, as an Intercultural Studies major, at a private university in Southern California. She also studied music in Sydney, Australia for three years. Rachael worked at a French immersion elementary school in La Habra, California with children from pre-K through 6th grade. She also spent a summer working with a French travel company that organized tours for students from France across the American Southwest. Some of her passions include culture, music, and learning. 

Mohamed Amine Demagh 


Amine moved to the United States recently with the motivation and ambition to continue his studies in civil engineering and start his own professional career. He is extremely passionate about education and tutoring, he worked for two language private schools for children as a French  instructor in Algeria. He loves Art, Music, and Photography.  


Amine holds a Master's degree in civil engineering and State Engineer Diploma in Public Works from the National School of public works of  Algiers. Mohamed was born in Algeria (North Africa) so he speaks fluently  both Arabic and French.

Keira Chinn 


Keira is a long-time educator of students from preschool all the way up to high school. She is a mother of two and has taught at EB Summer Camp for the last 7 years. She brings a sweet and gentle approach to her classroom and is a favorite of our summer campers. She has a deep knowledge of childhood development and language instruction for small children.


Alix Koliha


Alix holds a French degree in education and has 17 years of experience working with preschool, elementary and middle school-aged children. Working with children has always been her true passion and she is an extremely friendly, energetic, and creative individual. She is also and EB parent. 


Mariame Fofana 


Mariame is originally from Burkina Faso and has been living in the US with her daughter since 2017. She loves working with children because she grew up in a big family with over 30 siblings! The older siblings took care of the younger ones. Mariame retired in 2015, but prior to that, she was the first woman mayor of her hometown for 2 terms. Before that, she had a career in aviation at Air Afrique as a flight attendant, then a flight attendant instructor.  She is very happy to be here because as Mahatma Gandhi said " If we are to create peace in our world, we must begin with our children."


Alijah Kopelman 


Alijah Kopelman has been working as an Enrichment Supervisor at EB for 2 years. He grew up in the East Bay (and is Mirza’s son!) and has been working in after-school programming and summer camps here at EB and at other schools since graduating high school in 2019. He loves basketball, fashion, and music. He is an EB Alumni and is currently pursuing his Bachelor's Degree in Business.


Marcela Smith


Marcela Smith has been working full-time this year at EB and has been subbing here since 2018. She is from Guadalajara, Mexico where she studied theater for 2 years. She came to the US in 2007, learned English, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 2016 from CSUEB. Her previous experience includes working for Adventure Time aftercare as an art teacher, and at Girls Inc. as a program facilitator. She loves acting and frequently participates in improvisation/acting classes and workshops at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre.


Anna Skrzypczynska


Anna has been working at the École Bilingue as a substitute teacher since 2017. Prior to EB, she was an administrative assistant at a local nonprofit organization, taught French at Berkeley City College, UC Berkeley Extension, and as a graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned her Ph.D. in French. In addition to loving her work with kids at EB, Anna enjoys spending time outside, doing yoga, and discovering new music or watching a good comedy show.


Heather Ware


Heather has been working at EB as an Enrichment Supervisor since 2019. With a Degree in Art Education and over 20 years of teaching experience, Heather Ware is an accomplished interdisciplinary multi-media Teaching Artist with expertise in ceramics. Her focus is on empowering youth through art and creativity with an emphasis on community-building activities. A former Art Consultant for New York City Creative Arts Unit, Heather developed an interest in art as a medium for helping underprivileged kids express themselves and forge relationships. This passion for helping kids find and build community led her to become the Art Director and Chugim (Enrichment) Teacher at the Berkeley Jewish Community Center and Enrichment Program Fine Art and Ceramics Teacher for the Berkeley Unified School District, before coming to Ecole Bilingue.


Chahira Hassani


Chahira has been working as a sub at EB for the past two years and has become a regular part of the staff during this school year. She grew up in Algeria.


Rose McCrudden-Welch


Rose has worked with kids, played with them, and taught them in both the US and the Czech Republic. Currently, she is a political science student in the Netherlands. She grew up in Chicago and went to a French Catholic school for my primary education and has made an effort to use her French language skills ever since. She is looking forward to having some fun in the sunshine with French this summer! 


Tori Loftis


Tori has been working as our Health Coordinator for the past school year and is in charge of implementing COVID-related protocols, reporting, testing, and data gathering. Prior to joining our team Tori was an administrative assistant in the construction field and comes with lots of organizational experience. She was born and raised in the Bay Area and is a proud mother of Bodhi, her 1-year-old daughter.
